Wooden Pirate Ship Playground Sets

Ahoy, all daredevils, and pirates, beware!

If your playground has been conquered by sea monsters and pirates, then it’s time to get everybody on deck and out to sea. KOMPAN’s pirate ship playgrounds are packed with fun, adventure-creating activities that will have children playing and exploring for hours on end. Children love the hint of danger in their adventures. As a lingering menace, pirates fall into the same story-generating arena as ogres, dragons, and ghosts. Much like two pirate captains, no two wooden playground ships are identical. Each has its own character with distinct features as the Robinia wood creates a feeling of authenticity. The pirate ship playground sets are filled with places to hide, climb, to role play, helping shape the young buccaneer’s character, communication ability, and physical development. These are more than hours of play, they are voyages of self-discovery.

The six ‘standard’ pirate ship play structures are all open to further individuality beyond that of each uniquely-grained piece of Robinia. They come in three sizes, anything but small because these are expansive and expandable features that dominate the playground. The placement of slides, ropes, and even the pirate ship playground structure itself adds to the lure of a swashbuckling tale that is irresistible.

The Robinia tree is a triumph of nature. As a tree, at every level, it performs. It grows in poor soils, it feeds nitrogen into the earth encouraging other plants, its flowers to be the source of Acadia honey, and its leaves to breathe out Co2. It adapts well in urban areas, gracing many boulevards and streets. When cut as timber, the stump regenerates and grows back quickly. It is highly sustainable. The timber is fine-grained, strong, and durable - the perfect material for play features.

Another aspect that displays itself with Robinia is that it dictates how it is used. Each piece is unique and this brings an obvious degree of individuality to each commercial pirate ship playground. Explore the rest of Robinia collection, including our wooden castle playgrounds and natural climbing structures.

Frequently asked questions about Robinia Ships

Are pirate ship playgrounds just for boys?

No. Girls can get as much out of the adventure. In fact, some, mostly unsung, pirates were women, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and America’s first Rachel Wall. There were also several Swedish, Chinese, and French female pirates. At the play level, it’s about character building and in the world of make-believe where better to express yourself than breaking down conceptual barriers? A chance to be Keira Knightley or Johnny Depp, who’d say no?

Are the playground ships painted?

Yes and no. The wood can be treated or untreated, the former giving it initially a darker hue, the latter aging gracefully with time. The wood can also be painted, with features in blue and red and sides in black.

What type of rope is used in the pirate ship playgrounds?

KOMPAN uses a special ‘Hercules’-type of rope with galvanized six-stranded steel wires. Each strand is tightly wrapped with PES yarn, which is melted onto each individual strand. The ropes are highly wear-and-vandalism-resistant and can be replaced at the site if needed.
