Welcome to the Huff Park Playground in Grand Rapids, Michigan!
The City of Grand Rapids updated their 87-acre Huff Park with an overhaul of it's boardwalk, updated concession stands and restrooms, and installation of its new Robinia themed playground.
The parks and recreation department had been looking at nature play, but it had been slow going trying to make everything work. The only traditional playground items they had seen that were more natural, were composite rocks, logs, etc. that didn’t have the right feel. When they saw the Robina line they were very excited to see a natural wood product that still met safety standards and was easy to order and install. It was the perfect solution to a playground they needed to design and install in a quick timeframe.
The City of Grand Rapids Department of Parks and Recreation stated, "The process from design to installation was very smooth. Kompan has a great website that allowed us to look over products and make selections that would work for our playground."
In Harmony With The Wetlands
"We wanted to highlight the natural beauty of the park and build something that looked more natural and congruent with the surrounding wetland area. Money and space were limited and the Robinia line helped us make a big impat in a limited space. Park visitors are delighted by the look of the product and how it is so different from other traditional playground pieces." - Karie M. Enriquez, PE, Grand Rapids Department of Parks and Recreation
We are extremely happy with the playground outcome. We recieve a lot of compliments on the look of the playground and the playability. Everyone loves the bird nest swing as it allows multiple kids of different ages and abiliites to play together. Kids seem to be more imaginative on the playground since it is more unique looking than the traditional playground that was there before. We will definitely look to add more of this line into our parks.
