New multigenerational playground in Charlotte NC keeps everybody moving

One of the first multi-generational playgrounds in the country just opened in Charlotte NC.  Jim Garges, director of Mecklenburg Park and Recreation has a great quote in the article.  He says "the whole theory is that you just don't bring your child to the playground and sit on the bench".  Multi-generational playgrounds provide extensive benefits for people of all ages.  Way to go Charlotte!

Ballard Park, Ridgefield CT

Recently, the Imagination Station of Ridgefield, CT was chosen as one of the top 5 most inclusive playgrounds. Andrew Kimball and his team worked tirelessly with the playground committee to embrace an all-inclusive playground for all ages. They went out of their way to illustrate and educate about the benefits of dynamic innovative play equipment and not just settle for a traditional ramp structure. The final playground concept was well received by all community stakeholders. See Committee letter from Catherine Scatterday and Holly Endee.

Beautiful park in Mauna Kea State Park

Central Park in Mishawaka offers fun for all ages

Mishawaka's Central Park is revamped and now it aims to deliver in a big way for the Mishawaka community and those around. With its gorgeous setting overlooking the river and its ample playgrounds, Central Park is sure to please generations today and those to come. Recreation inSites, LLC was fortunate enough to be brought in on the revision of Central Park early on by Lehman & Lehman and recommended adding a key element of the park; the Giant Octanet by KOMPAN. This massive net structure allows children to freely climb as high as they want and start at any given point. With a space capacity of over 100 children, the Giant Octanet is impressive to say the least.

The playground design mixes in modern playground elements with traditional playground pieces. Children and adults will enjoy some of the traditional playground pieces like the swings, slides and overhead ladders. With the more modern playground pieces, people will enjoy spinning, riding the rails like on a skateboard, and climbing on the Crystal Sphere.  With 3 playground pads at this park, children are certain to be in constant motion!

When designing this playground, accessibility was key. On the main playground, there are over 20 ground level activities that are located on an accessible route and 16 elevated activities!

Central Park will be an exciting playground for all to enjoy. Stop on by, explore and be ready to experience this playground in a big way!

Playground helps rebuild community spirit after Sandy

App.com has a great story about Alexandra's Playground in Bayville NJ. After being devastated by Hurricane Sandy, children no longer had a neighborhood play space. That is until a couple of weeks ago. Volunteers came together to build a new playground on the banks of Barnegat Bay to replace the one destroyed in the storm. What a great effort and beautiful playground! Thank you to everyone who helped rebuild Alexandra's Playground.  Read the full story...

Robinia fits in nicely at the Museum of Life and Sciences in Durham NC.

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham NC welcomes climbers, sliders, and sand castle builders to their recently opened Gateway Park. Not only is it a gateway to their outdoor exhibits, but it's also a great place to relax while the kids explore.

The Museum of Life and Science chose Kompan's Robinia line of products after a long search for a playground that would fit into their natural environment, while giving children of all ages a challenging and adaptive play experience. Using the natural elements of Robinia filled their large space while at the same time met their very strict budget requirements. And it looks great! Congratulations Museum of Life and Science, you built a fantastic play space.

Art & Play at the Seattle Center Playground

An artists-created outdoor playground in Next 50 Plaza at the Seattle Center is having its Grand Opening on Friday May 22nd, 2015 and KOMPAN is honored to be a part of this distinctive playground.  Aptly named 'Artists at Play' this one-of-a-kind playground includes a 30-foot high KOMPAN Sky Walk play structure.  This is the first structure of its kind in North America!

The 'Artists at Play' design team is comprised of an accomplished group of artists and designers; Seattle-based artist Judith Caldwell, Seattle sound artist Trimpin, landscape architect firm Site Workshop, and playground specialists and KOMPAN reps, Highwire.  The 'Artists at Play' theme is built around the amalgamation of sound, visual, and motion.  Sculptures by Trimpin tickle the ears with wonderful sounds while bronze inlays created by Caldwell represent visual beauty and imagination.  Bridging nature and culture, landscape architect firm Site Workshop created the design of the entire space while Highwire encouraged the use of extraordinary play equipment for this extraordinary playground.

The Sky Walk structure comes complete with a Giant Octa net with Sky Cabin, a Sky Bridge and stainless steel tunnel slides.  The tallest point on the Sky Walk is 29 feet and 10 inches. The Sky Cabin in the Giant Octa net offers some exciting elevation as it sits at 16 feet 5 inches high.  For children who want to return to the ground quickly, there is a 52 foot slide that sends them to the bottom at mach speed.  This play space is designed for children of all abilities.  There is an ADA cabin with a slide, accessible stairs and a climbing net to provide that peak experience for children of all abilities.
