It is December and in many places, playgrounds are icy and cold. This is the time to think back to fun play memories from the playground. Karrie Weinstock, Branksome Hall’s Head of Senior/Middle School in Toronto, Canada, shares her inspiring thoughts about the importance of balance in children’s learning environments. She emphasizes that you can combine hard academic work with time for joy, laughter, play and socializing.
 
The second story is about a creative way to plan your child’s next birthday party. Take the kids to different playgrounds and let them enjoy each other, the scenery, physical play, and fresh air. If you can do it in New York, you can do it anywhere!  Consider joining forces with other parents and have a community birthday for all the kids if you do not want to do it alone.
 
In a recent article, I discuss the importance of designing motivational play pieces that literally speak to kids!  Lastly, we have included some fresh examples of innovative climbing designs.
